Default Muppet of the year prize goes to..... me

Hi folks

What would you do.....?

Recently bought some hairpins off eBay for my 75 (see here and here)

So, got them home and realised that they would probably need a little work before I put them on the car. OK, bite the bullet methinks, it'll be worth it. Then noticed that one of them had a small buckle in (see first link above) which made me even more sure a refurb was needed

Was just popping them in the car today to take to the wheel place, when I made another "discovery".

The tyres are two different sizes....

This is why I am conferring the prize of Champion Muppet on myself, as, not only did I not spot this before, but it actually said it in the eBay advert.

Two are 235/40 ZR18, two are 225/45 ZR18

So, I now have four wheels in need of a refurb (say £200 if I am lucky, inc the straighten) and will have to replace two tyres (again, £200 if lucky) so my eBay "bargain" of £151 has now turned, potentially, into £551

The question now is, do I go ahead and accept the financial blow, or is it best to try and sell them as a non-matching set, 2 lots of 2, or separately?

(or perhaps try to find another with a tyre that matches original spec to replace the buckled one and just buy one tyre?)

I don't know. My brain has gone into meltdown. I give up.

You would sell them without a problem I think, they seem to be getting rarer by the day. I sold four a couple of months ago within hours of posting in 'Spares for Sale'. Be honest about tyres and condition, they will go

Hoping you may be right, but part of me still wants bigger wheels than my car currently has - although maybe with a smaller wallet impact!

why not just put the wider tyres on the back and narower ones on the front, I would imagine that the wider ones will fill the arches niceley as standard size sits too far in imo

Bigger wheels take thinner tyres, so you lose the nice ride, and make damaging the wheels a much higher risk. And for what? Appearance? Yikes that's a pretty poor reason, especially as when you are driving you can't even see them.. innit...

Did consider this. but there's also the profile issue (40 and 45) which makes the diameter around 1.5 cm different...

I see your point, but then you could argue the same about anything that's on the outside as opposed to the inside. Having said that, I'd rather have a nice interior and a naff exterior as opposed to the other way around!
