Nice ZT knob
Not often I see these that aren't cloudy.
Or is it a clever photo? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20012005-M...-/261367829145 |

Although the listing says 2001-2005 the later models have a different insert for fitting. The item looks to be mk1.

Unusual, as you say most if not all went quite worn looking very quickly. Obviously a cheap item from a poor supplier. Probably the same supplier of the MG badges for grille and rear!

Cosmetically and in a design point of view the gear knob looks superb. The leather soon wears and the shift pattern disc becomes cloudy. The item new, last reported will cost you £80.00 based on the later fitting.

Interestingly in early press shots of the Z cars, the gear knob was much nicer. Although similar in design the top part was brushed metal rather than gloss resin.

That was my first impression also. I know some one in the club took away the naff plastic and lacquered the disc change diagram which looked like this one.

It was member Canonite that refurbed one of these gear knobs. There is a HowTo on the subject.
I don't know of you've noticed, but when the disc is clean. It's kind of sticky rubber. |
