Default KUMHO 712 Tyres - Any good

I need a set of 4 new tyres for my ZT (225/45/18) was just about to purchase/book to have Kumho KU31 fitted at my local place for £377.20 for 4 which wasn't bad i thought

but then i spotted on ebay they're doing Kumho 712 tyres (225/40/18) for £199 deliverd for a set with say £40 for fitting that a nice saving of £130!!

however i've not read any reports on whether these are any good, anyone have any experience?

The Kumho 712's recently came 2nd in a recent survery of over 37 performance tyres so not a bad choice.

I use Kumho Ku31's on both mine and are excellent tyres. 225/45/18 and 225/45/17 and I'm very fussy about the tyres I use.

The 40 profile is cheaper but ride quality suffers as well as a hightened danger of damage to the rims and tyres. ( I was in the tyre fitters the other day and a BMW had cracked 3 wheels on 40 profiles, ouch! )

Your speedo will over-read slightly, there will be a slight drop in mpg due to the slightly lower gearing and lastly fitting tyres of a size not stated by the manufacturer could invalidate your insurance.

My local Kumho stockist does the Ku31 18's at £90 each, fitted and balanced the 17's at £75 all inc vat.

The Kumho712 is not available in 225/45/18 only in 225/40/18

Just fitted Kumho's to my zt, 225x45x18, they are good tyres and the cheapest place i found them is from camskill.com. Quick delivery too. Then just get them fitted locally.

Avoid going for 225x40x18 as my zt had these on when i bought it. The result was a horrible ride, speedo was about 4 mph out and I also understand that it may affect insurance.

Tyre are a very emotive subject, but personally if i get a ztt with the can of foam then i would look to buying Conti ssr's, pricey i hear you say but proabably one of the best tyre's in the world if not the best & the runflat is a bonus.
