Take it off the key ring, and a blunt ended instrument in the loop end, pops the two halves apart...

Inside the fob, on the printed circuit board, there are two tiny buttons, one for unlock and one for lock. Sounds like one of them has failed. The key will still work 'manually'. When you open the fob, do not lose the grey 'block' in the other half of the fob. This is the transponder which allows your key to 'talk' to your lock, for goodness sake .. don't lose it. New keys need programming and lots of expensive stuff.

If you do a search for 'key fobs', you will find pix if the innards of the fobs.
