Default Engine Bay Clean...

Decided today to give the engine bay a clean, it was desperate for it.

I was inspired by a DVD called 'How clean is your car'.

Weapons of choice were: Pressure washer, Autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner (EMC), Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care (VRC), 2" paintbrush, clingfilm & duct tape. I left the car unlocked & the keys in my pocket, incase of a short & the car locking.

So, armed with a roll of duct tape & clingfilm I covered the alternator & other delicate electrical connectors.

I then sprayed the whole engine bay & rain run-off's with EMC & let it stand while I sprayed the underside of the bonnet, both metal & sound proofing. I then worked the EMC round the engine bay with the brush, spraying more as & when needed. Same for the bonnet, but I didn't work it in the sound proofing.

I then hit it with the pressure washer, starting with the bonnet, paying special attention to the sound proofing, I then blasted the engine bay clean of the EMC.

I then sprayed all the black (not sound proofing) with VRC, closed the bonnet & went for a drive to dry everything off.

Checking the results on my return, and I'm well pleased. Clean, oil/grease/debris free, and shiney!

Excellent results for very little labour, which is a winner in my books!

Afters - the photos don't show the full effects unfortunately.

I've always been scared to death of letting the old Karcher loose in the engine bay but those pictures certainly encourage me to have a go

Damned nice job

Take precautions & you'll be ok + don't jet at full power at/around sensitive areas.
