Default Boot lid

I am having a problem with my 75 saloon o3 plate boot lid, have renewed the lock and centre clamp but when opening either with the key or from the button in the car it makes a loud clonking noise, has anyone an idea what the trouble may be please.

Commonly known as "machine gunning"! There are two rubber stops on the underside of the boot lid, screw them out (anticlockwise) a quarter turn at a time til you hit the right spot where the boot opens and closes OK.
