checked my plenums!!
I thought I would take the bull by the horns and check my plenums (CDT Connie tourer). All going well I took the cover off after some fiddling, tentatively peered down the 'hole' to my relief all good. However I noticed lots of crud around the screen trim I thought in for a penny and all that stuff off came more plastic trim, with extreme care off came the windscreen wiper nuts. This looked fraught with danger of the wiper nuts falling down the hole so with care duly removed and placed in pocket. I pulled off the passenger side wiper all good, next the other side one tug and the castellated nut went straight down the hole somewhere beneath the brake servo I think!! I fiddled around hands now frozen no idea where it went bits of bent wire etc, hopeless. A visit to Rimmer's on line and order new castellated nut and plastic clips all round, now awaiting delivery. But screen all clean and tidy, I always seem to go over the and cause more work!! Moral of the story; don't just look after your nuts in the cold weather.

Not good, but at least all was good when you looked inside, I have a habit of losing scuttle clips - they are like plastic bullets when they come out!

get the hoover hose down there and see if that will extract it from the depths because you can bet your bottom dollar it will find its way into the plenum tube one way or another Arctic.

Take the car for a spin, literally, a bit of right foot and a quick tug to the right on the steering wheel should dislodge it.

Just get one of these....... http://www.diytools.co.uk/draper-523...k-up-tool.html
A lot easier! Although there might be someone that comes up with an idea that involves a broken speaker, a wire hanger and some duct tape to save a few quid..........

P.S I gave the wrong info it wasn't the castellated nut it was the collett, which I think is an alloy of some description. Last edited by strambo; 21st November 2012 at 09:05.. Reason: incorrect info |
