Default Master Cylinder Replacement - Mistakes

hi all, several people helped me on my original post and I apologise, you didn't waste your time, im just a total dunce with this and need it layed out in laymans terms for me re the issue below:

my master cylinder was replaced as I had no resistance till the very bottom in my pedal

it was changed and was great for 2 days...

now, when cold, there is no resistance till halfway down but when car heats up, it is a little better (not sure if theres a reason for that)

anyway, im taking it back down to garage who is going to bleed it and fill again but my question is, again in laymans terms if possible...what should I be telling him he may have done wrong?

I have seen reference to a "condom" thing, or a valve that may get clogged?

if someone can tell me, ill just show him literally the response

thank you

First of all, the garage may not have done anything wrong.

Did you have an original plastic master cylinder fitted or a TAZU metal master with copper pipe (supplied in the kit) ?

The 'condom' is simply the seal that sits under the master cylinder reservoir cap.

There is a possibility that you may have a weeping/leaking slave cylinder (this also incorporates the clutch release bearing & is called a concentric slave clylinder).

If a TAZU with copper pipe was fitted, the pipe union should be checked for leaks at the master cylinder & the pipe should be checked in case it has rubbed through somewhere in the engine bay.

Of course, it could be that some air was trapped in the system:

A fluid top up & bleed, then check for leaks would be the first thing to do.

hi matey thanks for reply

had original an they fitted the tazu with copper pipes

I may be worrying about nothing, but they said how easy it was to bend the copper piping into place...take it that's what they need to do?

if it is the slave...can I see this by looking into the engine bay?

or would there be leaks on my driveway?

if so...where abouts?

thing is...when I first took it in complaining of clutch issues...before just telling me it was my master cylinder, would they not have checked the slave too?

see that's what im hoping, a re-bleed will sort it

only thing is, the guy says the easibleed wont fit for me, as its not meant for master cylinders above the clutch where it is on the zt

does this make you think the guys just clueluess or is he right?

I hate doubting professional workmen, especially when I know NOTHING myself, but always worth checking...

merci beaucoup

only the master because when I took it in, he told me it WAS the master

also, because that's less costly than the slave

surely hye would have checked both when I first took it in?

the slave has only done 50k miles, so im hoping its not that...

When Andy Willi did my clutch he used one and plugged it into the offside front tyre.
With him it was on and off in a few seconds.

Easybleed works just fine mate . Or you can try the reverse bleed , it's much easier I think. I have easybleed if you want to borrow for couple of days you can .

The sound deadening makes it a bit fiddly to fit the eezibleed cap onto the master cylinder reservoir.

If you are doing this job yourself, you can of course either cut away the sound deadening and vacuum the debris up before removing the cap, or do as I did simply remove the rear securing bolt and slacken the front, and disconnect the pushrod clevis to allow the master to pivot around the front bolt.

Removing the clutch pedal makes access shed loads easier, and is a ten minute job to remove and refit

This applies to the original master cylinder, as I've never had cause to fit a Tazu type, however I suspect it would be similar.

Hope this helps

Brian
