Default Battery Killer

Hi

We have a Rover 75 V8 Estate. It went to the used to be dealer for some work on the aircon and ever since it came back it has been flattening batteries in a couple of days.

Put an ammeter on it and there seems to be a mystery 2.3Amp drain.

The repair to the aircon did not go well and the "fixers" were full of nonsense, so I also suspect foul play.

Thoughts and ideas would be much appreciated

You may have to put the tester in series with the neg lead, tape up the door light switch and pull fuses one by one. When the current drops you've found the circuit taking the current.

I think it's gonna be a major problem, suggest you just give the V8 to me

Though seriously, I don't know where to suggest you start, that amp age suggest something quite meaty, I would take the relay's out one at a time, until you find the culprit.

Unless someone else has come across the same problem after air con work?

Not saying this is your problem but my V8 flattened it's battery a time or 2 when I first put it on the road & one dark night I had the bonnet open & could hear something odd...................I then noticed the cooling fan just creeping round & deduced a relay had stuck & was causing the fan to run on. Just with you having the aircon fixed it may be that your slow speed fan has started working again & the relay may be sticky.

Just a thought

I Put the ammeter on the positive, but I will try the fuse pulling and see if I can find the culprit.
thanks for help so far.

As in the video, the tester goes in series with the negative lead so as to eliminate the risk of a short circuit, you don't want a loose pos lead rolling around.

Notwithstanding the current drain issue, all the v8s seem to kill the batteries rather quickly.

I solved my issue with a Bosch 770CCA AGM battery, was sat connected for 6 months and started first time!

ALso make sure the Satnav is powering down, thats the main culprit.

I am surprised that you have found a battery that lasts 6 month in between starts.
I would have sworn that is not possible.
I have a new battery of the recommended size, and my car will not last 10 days, if it does not get started.

How yours can possibly last six months is beyond me. What is so special about that battery?
