Default Is it preferable to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista

Hi

I'm currently with Vista Ultimate in my 32bit Desktop. I have only 1GB Ram with out any ram upgrading option. Do you think there will be a performance drop if i upgrade to Windows 7? I heard 7 handle ram better than vista. But i have this doubt due i'm with the minimum required ram.

I believe there would be a performance increase if you change to Win7.

I have it on 3 PCs at home and I would highly recommend it.

I agree with Eamonn, even though I was a staunch supporter of Vista

W7 certainly seems to impose less of a load than vista did.

W7 is the most reliable version by far. No silly error messages and it's almost impossible to make it crash. Startup & shutdown are faster than any other version too.

Not sure how well it'll perform with 1Gb of RAM (this PC has 4) but Microsoft say 1 is ok (or 2 for 64-bit version) - http://windows.microsoft.com/systemrequirements

You could try running the upgrade advisor - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/w...pgrade-advisor

Edit: upgrade advisor might throw up the odd message about possible conflicts with W7 and your existing software - but it should suss out your machine's RAM properly.

How come you can't upgrade the RAM? Is it a netbook?

Most netbooks can handle a 2GB stick.

For home premium, the version that is best suited to most people, it's about £65

I'd still look at upgrading the RAM. nearly all the notebooks and desktops sold over the last 3-4 years can take a min of 2GB.

If the machine is older than that it's probably not going to be a great performer either way.

Windows Seven is everything Vista should have been I have been using since the first Betas and have found it very stable and easy to use. I have had a few Driver issues but can usually get around that by using Vista drivers.

I have installed it on a various machines for peopl enad have found it very capable even on older machines with 1 gb of Ram.
