Parking Sensors Problem
Rover 75 Year 2000 KV6 Connie
Could any one tell me if one parking sensor is damaged does this knock out the full system. This morning stood at T/L big bump next thing Tranny van shoots past. I get out, one of the rear sensors knocked right in and bumper damaged. Now when i put the car into reverse no alarm noise. Just sometimes I get a long bleep but then nothing when reversing. Can any one tell me if there is a cut out switch or if one sensor would effect the whole system. Cheers basham |

Dunno --- but if the sensor is pushed in it may be registering a contact on the bumper itself.
Is it possible to unplug that one from the control box? It might help on a temporary basis. Rob |

Hi, turn on ignition but don't start the car select reverse then put an ear to each sensor if working they should "tick", if no ticking noise that sensor or the wiring to it is damaged.
Sorry to hear about the bump hope you get it sorted. Russ

Really gutted, but i know if i claim it is most likely they will write the car off. But again for me to pay the full cost of bumper, plus paint and parking sensor i cannot afford to do so. To be honest I am thinking of claiming on the insurance but asking if i can buy the car back.
Re- Sensor where abouts is the control unit, like i said the sensor does not look damaged in the centre section just snapped half the ring and pushed it in. I would have thought the others would still work, but it may be one out all out. If some one knows can they reply please. I know it sounds drastic to say they would write it off, but with the low prices of the cars at the moment plus a new bumper ,chrome spray job and parking sensors sorting I bet it is near the write of mark. basham |

Hi again
perhaps you can contact Independant Garages: Mushroom Garage Doncaster Road Rotherham South Yorkshire S65 2UG Tel 01709 373991 Fax 01709 373656 Email: [email protected] They may have a second hand bumper. Worth a try. I have some visual instruction leaflets on a rover fitted set of rear sensors and may be of some use to you if I can work it out on how to attach 'em I will send them on. Failing that I could send them on to you if I had your address. I'm not very '' cool '' with this computer lark. Rob |

Many thanks every one on the Forum more so the members who have offered items to mend my car, you know who you are. It looks now that with members help and heat and a little persuasion from my tapping stick i have managed to get it back into an acceptable condition. I was thinking of getting another bumper off eBay but all those are dented or badly scratched, so i may as well get my own repainted. The Sensor was ripped apart at the rear, that was why it was not working. Plus i was amazed how flimsy the rear bumper is and held on by just a few plastic screws and clips. Any way thanks for the support and the generous offers every one. basham (Tony)

It's only a cosmetic cover designed for minor parking bumps. The big lump of aluminium underneath is the bumper. Originally the covers came ready painted from the factory so it was a simple (if not costly) job to change
