Electrical connector to rear light
Hi Everyone,
First of all I would like to wish you all a Very Happy New Year. I am finallly trying to get my 2 litre V6 back on the road but am having a problem with the near side, rear flasher. The electrical connector that fits into the back of the light fitting is partly corroded. Can the connector be opened? It has little white bits of plactic on each side which suggests (at least to me!) that it might be possible to open the connector to clean it up or replace the connectors within it. Failing that is it possible to buy a new connector? I would be very grateful to receive any suggestions and/or advice. |

Autoclick do a variety of connectors online , you could have a look or contact them. Identifying the socket may be a problem though. You could send a photo.Rimmer bros used to do plugs but i have not checked recently. Failing that, get yourself down the boneyard with a pair of wire cutters !! Maybe someone will be able to help with a used plug on here , or give you a link to buy a replacement.

Check the pins on the light cluster for rust. If they are rusty soak some toilet paper in malt vinegar and stuff it down the sides if the pins.
Keep it wet for a day or so and wash with clean water. Apply electrical grease. This fix should last a year. You could insert wires into the plug and then fit female spade connectors to the ends of the wires and attach to light cluster. I cant recall if the wires I inserted had male spade connectors fitted macafee2 |

Thank you for your replies. They are very much appreciated. I am very pleased to report that the vinegar and vaseleen eventually worked. This was after unsuccessfully cleaning both the plug and socket sereval times with electrical contact cleaner. I used white vinegar (5% acidity) rather than malt vinegar just because that is what I had to hand. Many thanks, James
