Default Scrivits

Perhaps a daft question but are scrivits re-useable or best replaced.

Am switching my Grille which is fastenened on using two screws which go into scrivits on either side.

Are you talking about steel self-tappers going into a plastic receiver blocks(??) The grille seems too heavy to use scrivets (??)

The gizmos I call scrivets are all plastic pseudo-screws which go into a silly winged receiver. They always seem to be made from rather soft stuff, so they won't take much repeated working. If the final fasten looks OK, then the scrivet is working. If there's any doubt, fit new ones. They're available from Halfords at cheaper prices than the OEM ones. Not sure that these are what you mean.

The ones I mean fit into the hole a bit like a rawlplug and expand o grip as the screw fits in. They are soft plastic.

Yep, scrivets.

Here's Halford's info. These fit the water shield above the windscreen plenum.

hello t-cut
you can re-use them, but do not over-tighten them. i re used mine, they are not meant to be "tightened" up like steel screws.

Thanks for that TCut that's got to be a good saving over OE prices

Much appreciated

Will get the parts from Halfords and have them just in case I break them when re fitting.

Thanks to you both for your help
All the best

You can also get them from most auto parts stores. My local auto factors just gave me a few.

Being a POSB (RAF-talk for mean) person, I reused them, but fitted slightly larger (and shiny headed because I liked them) setscrews, which gave the female bit another lease of life.

If the stupid centre screw has got chewed, like Tcut says you can re use the outer & use proper metal screws (stainless variety if you don't want future corrosion)
