Pre PPD Carpeted Heater Enclosures

Hi
Managed to get hold of a set of the above for my 2.5 KV6.
On the ones I took out the black plastic vents were loose and moving about as the retaining screws had come loose.
Fitted the new carpeted bit of trim and screwed the vents in place nice and tight.
Fired up the car and drove off.
Then we get to the point of my rambling message.
The car seems quieter (not that it was massively loud in the first place)!!
Am I affected by PPDitus or do these actually muffle noise in the car?
