Unwelcome(?) intruder
Hello,
While resolving my starter troubles I observed this deposit in the air intake. It definitely has the appearance and feel of oil. How, I ask myself, could oil get into the intake, against the airflow? The air filter element is not oily. The only answer that comes to mind is damage to an inlet valve or seat, but that doesn't feel reasonable. Thoughts, anyone? Derek |

It's oil, and perfectly normal - you'll find it in all KV6 air intakes . I believe it's a by product of the crank case breather system.

Of course, it is collected vapours from the crankcase breather system. Why didn't I think of that?
Thank you, Teflon. |

Another thing to check is the rubber connecting pipe from the air filter to the intake. This can become partly filled with oil in the bellows part (ridges) of this connection.Make sure the breather pipes are cleaned out, often.

Thank you, bl52krz, for your helpful advice.
I assume the small (30mm?) pipe above the air intake is a breather. If so, where are the others? More research beckons, to establish where 'they' are to be found. Derek. |

If you remove the plastic cover from the top of the KV6 all will be revealed!

Apologies for a delayed 'thank you', Rich.
I shall be operating sub-bonnet in the next couple of days so that will be another item on my list. Derek. |
