Coding a second hand ABS Pump with TOAF
Hi All again,
I have bought a second hand ABS pump for my 2.5 V6 with traction control. I've had mixed opinions as to whether it needs to be coded to my car? I'm told this can be done using the VIN section of TOAF. The VIN section gives the option to copy from EWS, BCU, IPK, SMAC, JATCO, LCM SRS and EMS. What option do I want? I presume I connect the new pump and then copy from what to what? Any advice greatly appreciated. Regards, Terry. Last edited by bearhouse; 27th April 2024 at 12:04.. |

I've changed cars twice since (identical models), but when I had problems with my ABS pump years ago, I just swapped it, no calibration was necessary. I assume you are talking about the one under thebattery on a KV6?; or did I miss something?

You're on the right track, VIN tools, copy from any module which has the original VIN, my choice would be the IPK as that is copy proof, to the ABS module.
Check first by looking at the VIN information in the ABS section, if the original is still fitted. Fit the new one, then copy and see that the "new" ABS has the same VIN as the old one, and indeed other modules. Regards |

Many thanks for that. So effectively, all you’re doing is programming the VIN number to the replacement ABS? And you can copy the VIN from any module to the ABS? Is ABS shown as a copy to destination or is it one of these EWS, BCO, IPK, SMAC, JATCO, LCM, SRS, EMS?

If the existing ABS module has a VIN number shown by Toaf, then I'd be surprised if the ABS module is not listed in the VIN tools menu. (It's none of the modules you have listed).
Yes you're just copying the VIN to the replacement ABS module, and while you can copy from any of the menu modules, you should be sure that the module you select is original and as the IPK is tamperproof, I'd use that. Good luck |

The original ABS doesn’t have a VIN number stored so that implies no programming is required?

Terry,
I've looked in RAVE's technical description and repair manual and can find no mention that the ABS modulator needs to be configured to the car. Simon

Like I said earlier, I changed the ABS module on my mk1 for a 2nd hand one, no programming (I never even thought about that being needed). Cleared my original fault (cable contacts if I remember correctly?) straight away and lasted a few years until I stripped the car. The module remains stored in my shed.
