Default Engine wont turn over

Hi,

I have a 2002 Rover 75 CE auto (petrol) parked in my driveway. I last drove it on Sat night.

I have got into it today and all appears fine until I turn the key. All the usual lights and sounds are ok, but the engine just will not turn. I believe power is getting to the solenoid because I can hear sounds from the engine.

The battery appears to be fine as the radio and central locking work OK.

Any advice would be grateful.

Thanks

the power to operate the radio and locking is very low and would not necessarily indicate a battery fault. Is there a clicking from the starter when you try (not a turning noise)? Do the headlights flash when you try? both these indicate a low battery.

Not really Jay. Your starter motor draws about 150 amps from the battery. Your radio and lights require less than 10% of that figure.

By the way, if this is the first time this has happened, you didn't need to buy a new battery; just put the original one on charge.

If you are using your car infrequently, it's only a matter of time before your replacement battery suffers the same fate, so you might like to consider buying a maintenance charger.
