Default RDS on symphony?

Don't know if RDS is the right term, but on mine I have the "i" button which makes the word traffic appear on the screen, so it seems there is more than just a set station tuning, but on FM it doesn't always seem to search for best signal. I lose the clarity of signal reception as I'm driving, and often have to "scan". I can't find a button to switch this feature on.

Am I missing something obvious, apart from a brain?

TIA

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

the Symphony should use the best frequency available once tuned to a station providing RDS (in case an alternative frequency is available off course). By using Autostore (pushing FM for a few seconds until a beep will sound) only strong stations should be found. I don't know no other way to avoid weak signals.

Switch into service mode (by pressing MAN for at least 8 seconds after switching the radio on, but wait a second for the display to show something before doing so). There you'll find the serial number (SN), the software version (SV), the setting (1-4) for the speed adjusted volume control (GAL) and a "quality meter" for the actual radio station. It will show the frequency followed by an F and a two-digit number. 14 means best, small numbers a poor quality. But you cannot change the frequency while the service mode is activated.

The i button has more than one function:
1. You can switch on the "traffic" info, so a scan will find stations with RDS traffic info only. A CD will be stopped during a traffic announcement.
2. If you push this button for 2 seconds it will enable the "news" function. A CD will be stopped for the news.
3. Pushing the button during an announcement the Symphony will stop this announcement.

Juergen,

I've tried to get the service mode up, but all that happens when I press and hold the MAN button, is the symbol "MAN" on the display when I release it. I'll keep trying using different timings, but have I missed something obvious?

(now understand the "i" button, thanks)

How to access service mode on the Symphony ICE head unit
1. Switch the unit on and, within eight seconds, press and hold the MAN button for eight seconds.

2. When the unit enters service mode it automatically tunes to the last used radio station.

The following features can be adjusted or configured to an on or off status using the service mode:

* Traffic Programme (TP) or Traffic Announcement (TA) on or off

* TP Volume

* RDS on or off

* Regionalisation (REG) on or off

* Automatic Volume Control (AVC) sensitivity'

Except for my lo-line symphony.
Only AVC (shown as GAL) can be adjusted as per Juergen said. None of the rest of the above can be accessed in the service mode on my Symphony.

I did post this previously and someone else posted with the same confusion. Has anyone any further information on this?

Hi Malcolm

The procedure seems to be a little bit of time sensitive, it won't work every time on mine neither.

So I don't push the MAN button immediately after power on. I've learned it will be the best to push the power / volume button to switch the radio on (not using the ignition), then waiting for the frequency to show up on the display. After that I push and hold the MAN button for 8 seconds or so.

Mine seems to take anywhere from 8 - 12 seconds and then not everytime.

Juergen you were saying that 14 is the best reception, on the radio station that I use most its only 11 is there any whay I can turn that 11 into 14?
