Can I merge Highline loom with Symphony & HK loom?
As titled, I have a standard Highline sat nav loom and a Symphony/HK loom, can I just chop up the Symphony/HK loom and splice in the HK bits into the Highline loom?
I'd had a quick look and can trace most of the colours, although there are a few that don't appear to match up. Also, can I swap the BMW plug from the Symphony/HK loom to the Highline loom which has an ISO connector (for the door speakers and power etc)? And is the diversity cable as easy as it looks to transfer from the front (for Symphony) to the back (for Highline tuner)? If this is reasonably easy you can expect further questions as I don't really do wiring or ICE Thanks all, Bolin. |

Thanks guys. everything is in boxes atm, takes up a lot of space.
I've had another look and think I can easily spice the amp connections into the speaker wires near where the loom goes down to the amp, and then simply run the 2 12v wiries needed from the junction near the centre console. These wires, the earth points and the sub connections can be kept together from the bit of Symphony/HK loom I will cut off. It actually looks really simple to add the HK to the Highline, just solder 20 wires and job done I think As I have all the wiring I need, I can just follow the colours. The wiring on the How-To is a bit beyond me until I have a thorough read and do a bit more learning - but fingers crossed I don't think I'll need to. Just a thought, I have the Symphony HK amp, are the connections the same for the Highline HK amp? I'll need to swap the amp. The M5 board is down atm, I'll look at that when it's working again. All the wires are the same colours except for 2 on the Highline ISO connector which are different to 3 wires on the Symphony BMW connector. This will be the hard bit for me. I'll check the diversity cable fits the BM24 tuner I have, then I can just add it to the Highline loom and tuck the extra in the boot under the wheel well trim. |

Excellent, thank you.
For once something is easier than it looks at first (hope I haven't spoken too soon!) |

I found it one of those jobs that looked worse before you started but once started was straight forward but time consuming on the soldering side

Done.
Some pictures: Highline non-HK loom and Non-highline HK loom laid next to each other showing the bits that need to be transplanted - the thick cable heading to the bottom right of the picture with the 2 white connectors for the amp and to the left the thinner cable with the smaller white connector for the sub, plus the earth point in the middle: The HK bits needed cut from the Non-highline HK loom - the wire coiled up are 2 mauve/pink wires for 12v supply and a purple/yellow wire for on/off switch, both taken out from a juction near the connector to car: The two bits soldered together, ensuring that all the speaker colours are matched and that the radio outputs go to the amp input (smaller white connector) and then from the amp output to the wires going to the connector to the car. The 12v and on/off wires are taped along the loom and joined in with the same colour wires near the connector to the car, in the case of the 12v there was already a junction so I added them into this. And the diversity cable removed from the Non-highline HK loom and taped to the Highline-non HK loom, with the excess coiled up near the radio tuner: For changing the ISO plug to a BMW one, see my other thread. Unless I add to this thread to the contrary, this all works! |
