Am I doing it wrong?
I recently bought a Meguiars drying towel after years of using a chamois.
My chamois dry's the car perfectly but the towel just seems to redistribute the water I guess there is a different technique but what is it |

You need to wrap the towel in a chamois... then it works fine...

I dab the towel on the car and it picks it up fine for me, leaves a tiny amount of water, same as the chamois

Have you washed the towel with fabric softener? (if so, you're screwed!)
If not, put it in a bucket with luke warm water and a big amount of household (cleaning) vinegar (about 500ml in a 10l bucket). Leave it to soak for a night and then wash it in the machine (you can use normal washing liquid, but NO fabric softener). Then try again. The towel should just adsorb the water when you dap or wipe it dry.

I use a waffle weave from Halfords, it dries the whole car without wringing out. Doesn't streak at all

I use a 'Vileda' cloth which mops up water from bodywork and is excellent for use

One thing though, the first time I used it, it was rubbish, just spreading the water around. I was ready to throw it away until 'Er indoors pointed out that all new towels are the same until washed, so a quick run through the washer (with no softener!) had it working brilliantly. |

I night soaking in household vinegar will also make them perform better. It's even good practice to do this every 10 times you use one to keep them in good condition.
