DIY diesel engine tray insulation
I read that someone suggested using a camping mat.
Without spending about £25 on heat resistant closed cell sound insulation. Has anyone successfully found a cheap alternative to replace the sound proofing? Mine is all washed off and the tray is off ready to refit. I would like to replace the insulation with something to reduce road noise but am scratching my head as what to use. Must it really be heat proofed I don’t have a clear image of where it would get hot the sump area has the crimpled aluminium plate and the front near the rad is left bare anyway. If anyone has done a DIY solution I would be interested to hear it.

I guess a melting yoga mat isn’t gonna smell great either
Still it did just look like sponge that remained of the old insulation. From images of good condition ones it appears it originally had a hard Board type material over the foam sponge stuff. Which presumably was all somewhat fire proof . I was driving around with oil and latterly fuel soaked foam under mine. I guess I’m looking for some ingenious cheap fire resistant idea and just can’t think of anything suitable. I was researching building materials lagging etc but nothing quite fits the bill.
