Default Air Con Regas

I have had my 75 tourer CDT (02 reg) for nearly two years now and it has been a solid reliable car in that time. Whilst the Air Con still works, I believe it is loosing its effectiveness and I believe it is time for a regas/ health check, which I understand it should have around every 2 years. The fan starts up correctly when I turn on, but I am unsure of how cold it should get if in top condition. Any pointers would be appreciated as this is the first car I have owned with A/C. Car has manual air con by the way, not climate.

Is there anything in particular I should look for when identifying a suitable supplier to do this. Is it just a case of looking in the yellow pages for an auto air con specialist?

Thanks for any help given.

Imo I believe every 2 years is more than adequate for a regas. Worth while asking the trick question when phoning around ........"how long do you leave the vehicle under vacuum for after the gas has been removed"

The answer you ideally want is anything over half hour, the longer the vac the better the results. The longer the vac more moisture will be removed from the system.

There is a thingy in a tube, rhs of condenser , damn can't think of the name like a filter, if the gas is being drained would it be false economy not to change it as part of a "service"?

Are these cars gassed from new with a better (gets colder) refrigerant than the ones available to third parties?

If using an independent make sure they fill with the quantity stated on the yellow label as the amount of charge as well as how hard the compressor is working determines the pressure in the system and this has a direct effect on the trinary switch and hence AC and fan operation.

The thingy is the orifice tube.
All gas used is R134a Keith but you will find most manufacturers save money by not putting in the required amount. Peugeot I hear ( cannot prove either way ) only put in 60% of the required 134a during production. Think of how much money is saved ?

Sorry Keith I dont agree on the quantity to be refilled as per label. How much refrigerant will be left in the lines I always add 100g to the total weight so X gram will be in the system and x will still be left in the lines. Always clear your lines twice before starting.

Ah but there speaks the voice of experience
If overgassed or for that matter undergassed strange things can happen the AC fan runs quite happily all the time the AC pressure remains within the middle range if the lo pressure switch is operated then AC is disabled as it assumes gas has escaped, if the Hi pressure switch is engaged fan comes on flat out until the pressure drops, typically this is what causes the fan cycling on cars with faulty low speed fans but I have also seen it happen as a result of someone going ott with one of the awful Halfords cans of sealant air and oil and aparently some refrigerent alledgedly

I bet you just love clean that stuff out!
