My Ancillary Belt Just Let Go.....

.....On the A13. I felt & just about heard it go & the battery light illuminated to inform me what had happened. She carried on going regardless & l pulled off at the next junction. Inspected under the bonnet to confirm, had a quick search on here to gen up on the possible effect on the timing belt & called the AA. He was there in less than half an hour, confirmed that the belt wasn't there & that it hadn't interfered with the timing belt, removed the few remains, checked he didn't have one & was right, then offered a fully charged battery to get me home while he followed or the spectacle lift. I suggested going with my battery which is relatively new & we went with this option which went well & though he said the lights were beginning to flicker after a few miles she made it home under her own power. All quite straight forward.
I'll order a couple of belts from Mat & get them fitted at the weekend.
They were all replaced last year but it looks like oil had been getting onto the alternator belt, possibly a top cover leak so l'll order a gasket too. I'll use the Chrysler for work for a couple of days.

The as-yet uncharged Varta battery even started her up today. New belts on the way.

P**s poor service from FedEx. Supposed to be here by 1pm today, then 6, now Monday before 6pm. All for the higher delivery charge.

The belts arrived Monday & l just fitted them. An easy job once you've familiarised yourself with it though l had changed the PAS belt before. I folded back the front half of the arch liner which does afford better access than the top method. I didn't really see any sign of an oil leak but once the new auxiliary belt was in place l noticed that it had probably been rubbing on the aircon pipe at the bottom of the radiator & there were signs on the pipe shielding that this had been happening so l got a plastic tie around the pipe & the subframe brace & created a bit of clearance, not much but enough. You can see some of the remains of the shredded belt below. The PAS belt wasn't that old at all but there's plenty of cracking in it so if you ever take it off you may as well have a new one to hand. In fact l'll probably carry a couple of belts in the boot from now on as the AA guy could have fitted it at the roadside if l'd had one. The service from them was excellent & though it is on the expensive side it covers my wife & stepchildren too whether passengers or driving in any vehicle.

While the arch liner was off l found the leak from my washer bottle is around the pump seal so next thing is to check whether these are available.
