Default Intake cleaner

Carried out a pre mot service on my ZT. One of the things I did is a generous spray of intake cleaner into the intake pipe withe the air filter removed. Opinions please, does this do good, or is it just another snake oil? 🐍

Might help to tell everyone which engine you have.

Hi Mike,

I've used Wynn's air intake and carburettor cleaner as a cleaning fluid in conjunction with a brush when decontaminating mechanical linkages. It's very efficient at dissolving deposits and removing discolouration.

I wouldn't just spray it in to a running engine but that's just me.

Instructions are to spray into running engine. I have my doubts though as most of it probably doesn’t have time to touch the sides before being combusted!

At the time of posting, small vote indicates its most likely snake oil, so I’ll think twice before spraying it into the induction with engine running.

I’ve also used it to hand clean old [slide] motorcycle carburettors with moderate success (similar to SD1’s advice). I’m careful with CV carbs though, as it is rumoured to damage diaphragms.

Be better off chucking some redex or similar in the tank and giving it a thrash 😁
