Oil cooler
Hello all
My recent overheating probs have been traced to a failed oil cooler unit. Is there anyone in Yorkshire area who could come to York (where car is) and fit a replacement unit (which I will be sourcing)? Can't really afford to keep paying garage hourly rates to get the car fixed, so need an owner/enthusiast who has the skills (which I don't) to replace the unit for me at a more reasonable cost. Can anyone help? Thanks Andrew

Thankfully not a hard job at all - if I was closer I'd book the afternoon out and pop over myself.
BigRuss is near Huddersfield and may be able to help, but I'm not sure if he travels or not these days (it's been a while since I've spoken to him). Have you done these? What were the results? The oil cooler can only cause overheating if it's physically blocked. That is caused by the unwise use of sealing products (such as K-Seal). You said in an earlier thread that you're not aware that any have been used. So we have two possibilities here. Either you've been misled and a sealing product has been used in which case you have a bigger problem on your hands. Just replacing the cooler is unlikely to solve the problem since such products are almost impossible to remove and continue to affect the operation of the thermostat. Alternatively the garage has misdiagnosed the fault. Simon

Update
Car passed the 'demist' test.
I have had advice from different folks that its possibly the Oil cooler, or maybe the thermostat that is at fault. Are there any Yorkshire based specialists (or knowledgeable owners) that can come out to me in York (as I wouldn't want to risk driving it too far) to get a definitive diagnosis and fix the problem? I have been recommended to speak with Mobile MG Rover Mechanics in Derby, but am having difficulties making contact with them. Not sure what they'd charge to come out to York! I will source the parts, but I need to know what I need, so not wasting money on bits I don't actually need. I need my ZT back on the road Cheers Andrew
