One of the reasons I stopped going to the Acle Bridge Inn every time I was up there, was how the prices had gone through the roof.
It's the same everywhere.

The cost to run these establishments, utility prices, rates, wholesale food costs. They all have gone up exponentially and that cost has meant prices have risen to try and make a profit.

Sadly, that makes a regular meal out a much rarer occasion for most of us.
The knock on to that is these places lose trade and many establishments end up closing. Sad all round .

I feel that I will be using the Harbour Lights more for a nice cold beer on their lovely stepped terraces overlooking the marina basin, rather than having a full blown meal.

I will however, no doubt test it out and report back my findings

Morning all, It's an overcast morning but looks like we'll get some sunshine this afternoon.

Jeff, thank you for those strong points, I don’t disagree with anything you have said and look forward to reading your report. It’s all about the money. but this morning I have popped into the barber who is doing a pensioner special at £3 today

Just waiting my turn. Next door is a ladies hairdresser where Jessica is having a cut, blow dry and massage.

I had an email from Kenya Airways offering an upgrade from Economy to Business class. We have already paid £1600 each and a bit extra for more recline and more legroom.

We are going to pass on the upgrade. I guess some can afford it but being pensioner’s we have to live on less.

Things this year are more expensive….

Afternoon Phil, that's a good price for a haircut, I love those chairs. The Polish girls have gone from the ASDA hairdressers here & the wait times are too long now, so I went to the first Barbers I came across in town, Some Afghan chaps have opened up a barbers shop & prices are a tenner for a cut.
I got a great haircut from them & will be using them from now on.

My beards gone really long as I've not trimmed it in ages, so next time I'm there I'll get them to trim it properly & look like a hipster .

Just made two salmon & broccoli cheese quiche's, One was made with gluten-free ingredients & was a bit of a faff to make that pastry but they both turned out bootiful.

I'm watering all the plants in containers this afternoon as they need a good watering.

Michael, my long term barber retired, no warning, just a note in the window. After a bit of hunting around the "hairdressers" I go to now the guys are all Turkish. Conversation is a bit limited but they do a good job and only a tenner. There's also one where the guys are all Polish, I only ever went there once. They did nothing to make you feel welcome, in fact you felt the exact opposite, like you were a necessary inconvenience. They totally ignored you and chatted amongst themselves in Polish and with Polish mates/family that kept dropping in, never went back,

I shaved all my life but once I stopped working I rebelled, let it get on with it and just take the hedge (beard) trimmer to it every few days.

We now have two Turkish barbers in our little village. There's hardly ever anyone in there but they are running around in fancy cars, designer clothes etc??? Perhaps a bit of laundering on the side??? The old barber's shop was very run down and he eventually closed shop!

Richard does it help to know you are not alone? Sometimes it does.

Recently I was asked to make contact with a wealthy business man in Tanzania who 2 months ago had the same operations I had in 2022 and in 2023.

At the time of his operations, he thought he was the only one and had no one who could appreciate what he was going through.

I was able to advise him what to expect and talk with him about the pain management and complications, how to overcome them. We chat now and again on Video Calls/WhatsApp as he remains in Tanzania.

I have great faith in you Richard, you will get through this as you are from the school of tough. You have a lot going for you in other areas of your life. You have a new house, a beautiful wife and family.
First of all thank you for your very kind words Phil.
I know all about other people with illness thet often don't bother telling others about their problems, however minor is compared to some people who must be suffering for alot more than me.
My trouble is I try to get something done, but get pushed back for something that is really quite small, but when I get back, I straight away this is happening just to me and people are being awkward just to me.
This isn't how things go , but being ready to get back to work makes me feel everyone in drs and DVLA, are trying to stop me going forward.
The other thing is I've stopped doing my customers is now over 3 years, alot I have spoken too and jumped a quick move to tell them " he has backed in, we have taken his round ".
Only time will see after 30 years of being self employed , may change for when I start back to work.
