I would bet that there are gaskets under there ,but unfortunately cannot be viewed without dismantle of the vis box itself...

I'll report back in a few days.

As Discussed, there is indeed a seal on both Vis Motors and these if failed will indeed allow air intake, the fact that the balance vis has this filter/breather missing will have no bearing on the air leak. easiest way to eliminate them is to fit the original vis motors to the good manifold you have at the moment and see if the problem appears

The car ran perfectly with the loan manifold chamber for 275 miles of motorway, A roads and urban crawl.

I have fitted my balance actuator to the good chamber and the idle remains perfect. I had earlier fitted a spare power actuator (electrically faulty but physically good) to my original chamber and the idle remained high. This appears to rule out both VIS actuators.

I've removed the cover on two power and two balance actuators to find no gasket but instead a mastic seal between cover and casing. The cover has a flange which sits inside a channel on the casing.

Also today I sealed all the ports on my original throttle body/manifold chamber assembly except for the air intake. I then applied leak detecting spray around the screwed joint in the manifold and, using an electric garden leaf disperser and a funnel, blew air in through the throttle wedged open. Admittedly the velocity was excessive but there was not the slightest hint of a leak through the screwed seam. However I'm not satisfied that this was a reliable test.

Finally I removed some gum deposits on the outlet ports to the R.H. bank (those which locate over the green seals).

My original chamber is still on the bench as tomorrow I plan to telephone the smoke testing company and seek their opinion on any tests that can be done.

Simon
