I repeat that this should NOT be disconnected. It is a mistake in Haynes which unfortunately has been repeated on this forum as valid. You may have introduced air at the same time as bleeding it. Please follow the official MG Rover procedure which I have posted many times. Don't miss out any stages or modify them. For example, don't run the engine with the bleed screw removed.

Now Steve, you haven't answered my question about the possibility of K-Seal or equivalent being added to your engine at some point. The symptoms you have are suspiciously like those other members have experienced after a dose of such products.
