I have now tackled the job with my angle grinder and I can now report that we are back to solid metal and ready for treating. I will have another day preparing the surfaces and then I will apply Aquasteel (used on ship decks and oil riggs).
It will then get a top coat of hammerite. Finally waxoyl will be applied to the inner sections of the suspension arms and all the nooks and crannies. Its a ll in the preparation!
I'm pleased to say that the rust is not as bad as some of the other pictures I have seen. I put this down to regular hosing down the salt accumulations in winter's past
