The thing is...........it'll happen again !
I've found once they start to stick, even when used on a regular basis just to keep the motor going, they always stick again after a while.
By tapping the motor casing, the field magnets inside can crack.
For the amount of work you've just described to access the motor, you're not far off being able to get the whole shelf out to do a proper repair.
I had to remove mine on my ZT for the very same reason & it's actually not that bad a job, you just have to be a bit careful removing/refitting the actual shelf.
