I worked for FIRESTONE tyre company for a short while between jobs. I had a chance to walk around the factory where they moulded the tyres.

The rubber actually starts off GREY. They then add a black dye with the consistency of flour.

The guys that got to handle this dye were given an extra half hour at the end of their working shift to try and remove this dye from the pores in their skin.---

The point is that the colour in those O rings could simply be the dye starting to fade but leaving the rings OK to use.--------------Maybe.
