Quite the opposite from the dyno results published here some years ago by Cannonite.
He had his 160 with a complete and WORKING vis set up running at 181 IIRC He commented that changing the inlet manifold for one that had been stripped out gave a less smooth curve and a less enjoyable driving experience.
To be fair others have said they noticed and increase in performance with everything removed but no figures were produced at the time and as you will appreciate each car will have its own quirks. My thought are if you drive flat out everywhere then the Vis set up is of no use to you otherwise it is.
Everyone has an opinion on them though
