I take on board the varying opinions with regards to tuning.
Whilst I can't say I'm not doing it for the powaaaaar, I kinda enjoy the engineering and thought that goes into tweaking an engine.
Car manufacturers make motors for the average Joe and to meet whatever goals they have in mind. For example, the K turbo was deliberately taken below what the engines actual sweet spot was so that it wouldn't compete with the V6. I'd suggest that it is very rare for a manufacturer to build a car right up to its tolerances.
These little gains are there for the taking and I believe 400bhp in a supercharged 260 is right on the money with regards to performance, handling and general drive-ability.
