Oscar is 1 next month, for as long as I've been taking him for walks, he has been a little NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-. Without exagerating, I'm sure he could pull a small car. After every walk, my back and sides ache and where he is so eager to walk faster he sort of hops, coughing. I have him in a harness so he hopefully doesn't strangle himself with a normal lead. I've tried a halti(?) and that is a serious no no. He goes absolutely beserk and will end up hurting himself so that is no longer used.
Around the house he is the most gentle creature you could imagine but as soon as he steps outside the front door on the lead he goes wild with excitement, which is nice I suppose, but it would be nice if my arm could remain in its socket!! Any tips??

English Springer Spaniel so not a big dog. He has more strength than our Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
