Default Road trip

Living in Perth, Western Australia, a trip the distance of Southampton to Sheffield 206.3 miles (or 362km in new money) i would consider time well spent to get a good car. Have been looking for such an elusive Connie locally for several months now and whilst there are a number for sale in our state, they have proven to be mostly mistreated dogs with questionable mechanical histories and never seem to be as described either online or over the phone. So much so, i am now contemplating flying to Sydney and driving a 60,000km mileage example back the 4000km to home, just to make sure that i get the right car, because i am not the most patient of types and what patience i started with is rapidly dwindling.
Something like this in Oz would be great for me personally, as you have to rely on the seller to take the car to some kind of specialist that you find on the web just to ensure that everything checks out and these guys can charge a fair bit. Costs mount up when you have to do this a few times because the report comes up telling you that money needs to be spent and the seller either does not want to negotiate or you get cold feet because of the problems found, so need to start the process over.
Would rather not travel the equivalent distance of Durham to Damascus, but will if i have to.....my missus reckons i need certifying.
