There is only one way to do this properly.

As follows:-

1) Buy some of the white foamy A/C Bactericide from Rimmers.
2) Remove Passenger side plastic under glovebox.
3) Lean in and you will see the fan through the recirc vent flap.
4) Turn on A/C on re-circ for a 20 secs, then spray liberally into the vent, looking with a torch so you DO NOT insert the spray nozzle into the fan blades.
5) Turn off fans and A/C after about ~10secs.
6) Wait 30mins, run fans on full blast.
7) Repeat Process again - then wait another 30 mins.

Leave overnight, then blast it again full speed in the morning for a few mins to cear out any fumes.

Voila, last time I did this which is not exactly really different to the standard instructions, I never had another A/C smell ever again.

Job done.

Anything else is a waste of time and will not coat the matrix properly.

Removing pollen filters, or using the "A/C bombs" is again, a complete waste of time. Do it once, do it right, and relax.
