Another fix is to replace the plastic end-pieces with metal equavilants. I haven't investigated fully but I'm sure my boxes of mountain bike spares will yeild something usefull. I may even find a metal connector block rather than the plastic once used. Heck... let's go for broke and braise some cable-stops onto the metalwork inside the engine bay to provide an extra-strong support.
