Batteries are now expected to outlast the rest of the car, i.e. not drop below 70% capacity for at least 15 years. They are then eminently suitable for repurposing as grid storage - even a degraded first generation Nissan Leaf battery (which was less durable than those in production today) would be able to store at least 36 hours' worth of electricity demand for the average household.
