Just been reading a survey about travel music played in vehicles and the effects different ‘genres’ (they like that word, makes it sound sophisticated or something) have on the driving of all kinds of vehicles. The survey was publically funded, that’s you and me, and I wondered how to get one of these sinecures because they always lead to gravy-trains and eventually a peerage.
Apparently, military music provokes over-confidence or even aggressive driving. Especially the Charge of The Light Brigade. Who knew? Light Pop gives us a feeling of pleasant cheerfulness and even temper. Seems to me some of those inter-continental lorry drivers who prefer the gentlemanly vest and studded leather glove approach (as opposed to a Harris Tweed jacket) to a meeting of minds are paying too much attention to the Brahms & Liszt.
