I have done this job year on year for a long time now, from a local former pit village in Gateshead. Done it that often I know a lot of the marchers that go.
They don't ask for me each year, but they prefer to have the same driver, as I know the order of play for the day, where to drop off, pick up and where.

No history that I know but f that any of my ancestors were miners, but quite a lot of mining heritage on Fiona’s side.
