Yes, you were right, it was at the lower end. Jeez! I do hope it lasts longer than that.

My car has covered 120k and it has only just started moving. It is actually a proper bearing very similar to the one at the top end, but maybe the balls are a little smaller. Both the bearings did seem to be a little dry so I managed to push a bit of moly grease into them, easier said than done on the lower one. I had to use cotton bud, with the cotton removed. The only access to the ball race is through two small openings in the centre tube.
