Hi Ronnie, I have the same issue on my tourer and so it's got a leak some where. Last year in order to fix it , my mate who was working in a garage at that point, borrowed a light to check for air con leaks and thought he saw staining where the pipes run at the back of the engine against the sound deadening . I got a replacement pipe from Colin up in Bedlington with new O rings , and I also replaced the condenser as it was 18 years old. I got it regassed using a discount code at ATS and after an hour the machine had tested and regassed the system and I was good to go. After a couple of months the system was starting to blow warm again but the fan still kicked in along with the pump.

I didn't use the car as I recovered from Covid in January and when I started driving again in the summer , it's now back to the way it was again. My mate gave the valve a quick press and said there is nothing in the system !

I await to see how you get on and what you find .
