Have you a date for the MRI? When you have the scan and you are able discuss the results and treatment with the specialist, you will know if you are staying with the NHS or not. Ask if there are other treatments available, not available to NHS patients. If you are offered surgery and you don’t have long to wait, stick with the NHS. If it’s a long wait, you can ask for a set fee package for private self-pay. What increases the costs is the length of stay in hospital as a private patient. Medication can also be expensive as the tablets are brand names and not generic. When you have finished going private, you can go back to the NHS for follow up etc although you could check if that’s included in the package. Does that make sense?
