No where did it say "providing it is insured in its own right by the registered keeper" - or anything even coming close.


I was unsure myself, thats why I rang my insurers, did the answer I receive from them was made on assumption that: "it was insured in its own right" i wonder.

I would look at this slightly differently. Unless the policy states that the insured may drive another car .......even if it is not insured in its own right, I would assume that it must be insured in its own right.


Also, if the insurer confirmed that the other car does not need to be insured I would want this confirmed in writing. I suspect you are unlikely to secure this as it seems counter to the intent behind the rules on taxing a car etc.
