Not today but yesterday. Put the new rear nearside disc and pads on Mo. Went round to do the offside and voila!
After taking the old disc off I discovered one of the central retaining pins for a brake shoe, rattling round the drum.
It was this that was responsible for Mo occassionally slowing down. Obviously it kept getting jammed between the brake shoe and the drum wall. It wasn't the cam position sensor, nor the spark plugs, but a loose pin.
However, it also revealed another problem. The pin had come out because the part of the backplate which holds it in place had pulled through.
I quickly ordered a new pair of backplates from Mat at DMGRS, together with a new fuel filter for Kim. But because it's a bank holiday they might not arrive until Tuesday. Giving me a few days to get them on before making a second attempt to visit MickyBoy and Rick_Sta on Friday (hopefully).
