+1 on the new fuel filter!

Years ago I had a Rover metro diesel and the first time I changed the fuel filter there was a noticeable increase in performance. After a while I noticed the car was feeling a bit lethargic so I changed the filter again and the once again the performance was back. From that point onwards I changed the filter whenever there was a noticeable drop in general liveliness of the car. I seem to remember I was changing the filter about every six months or so. Because of this, I change the filter in my 75 every 12 months, and I only do about 7 or 8k a year in my 75.

As for the Egr, I cleaned mine out then disconnected it so it should stay clean. Mine was unbelievably dirty and the opening was probably restricted by at least 30%. Not sure if you would be able to tell any difference between a cleaned out Egr or a bypass, I would say, probably not.
