That will not charge a battery. What you need is a battery charger connected for 24 hours.

That's what the fuel pump is supposed to do when the ignition is switched on. Do you mean that the fuel pump isn't running when you're cranking the engine? If so, yes, that's much more likely to be the crankshaft sensor than the pump.
