Well, we got it running!
Ticked over for an hour to charge the battery, the port seal was replaced and pipes were all refitted (apparently they were all trashed), and then seven miles after passing the MOT it stopped...
Pump is priming and then cutting out - crank sensor? Or pump itself? Breakdown and the garage both think it's the pump.
Sender unit clip is fine (I don't have a photo) - it was just a lens aberration with the phone camera being so close.
