Looks like I'll have to try and locate a scrapper who is prepared to check the condition of the cable before sale. What are the odds on that, I wonder!

To be fair Derek, they look like standard barrel nipple brake cable ends, I utilised a pushbike brake cable in lieu of a bonnet release cable as I was reticent to pay £26 for one, as well as wanting the car fixed ASAP
The total cost of the repair was a staggering £3.65 from the local bike shop, and a little time spent
