Accounting for low purchase price, lack of depreciation and running costs (if you do most of the maint yourself), 75s / ZTs are cheap motoring, I think. Especially considering the standard of ride etc.
However, all cars pass the point when they become too much trouble. Where that point is varies between owners. For some its three years; when they have to suffer the indignity of an MOT every year...
